PHOTOGRAPHY: Do you love nature and like the idea of capturing it on film? Here’s your chance.
Audubon Community Nature Center in Jamestown, N.Y., has announced its 2017 Nature Photography Contest.
“Now in its seventh year, the competition is designed to encourage anyone who enjoys doing photography — from beginners to professionals — to enter their images and compete for prizes,” stated a press release from the organization.
Categories include landscapes, plants, wildlife and, new in 2016, the Audubon Community Nature Center. The center was added as a category to encourage artists to take snapshots there.
There is a youth division for photographers between 8 and 18 years of age, and an adult category for people over age 18. The organization accepts submissions from people around the world.
A total of eight prizes of $100 each will be awarded.

SOCIAL SECURITY: Two local counties are among the 10 places in Pennsylvania where Social Security goes the furthest.
This is according to financial technology company SmartAsset, which based its conclusions on cost of living compared to the average Social Security income of the county.
Elk County ranked No. 5, with a cost of living of $17,042 and an average Social Security income of $18,236; and McKean County ranked No. 7 on the list, with a cost of living of $16,220 and average Social Security income of $17,235.
Meanwhile, Potter County ranked No. 36, with a cost of living of $17,299 and an average Social Security income of $17,426. Cameron County ranked No. 47, with a $17,158 cost of living and a $16,817 average Social Security income.
Nationally, Elk County was ranked No. 150, McKean County was No. 197, Potter was No. 649 and Cameron was No. 991.
Not too bad, considering that there are 3,141 counties in the nation, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
