Hot meals for hungry youths this summer
The Bradford Area School District summer lunch program has been held every year since 2009. It helps to ensure that all youngsters in the community get a nutritious, hot meal at least once a day.
At Bradford High School, lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from June 16 to Aug. 7. This location will be closed July 3.
At Fretz Middle School, lunch will be served from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m from Monday through Thursday from July 7 to July 31.
At School Street Elementary, children can get lunch from 10:45 to 11:45 Monday through Thursday from July 7 to Aug. 4.
And, at George G. Blaisdell Elementary, lunch will be handed out from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday from July 7 to Aug. 7. This site will be closed on Aug. 4.
“We are encouraging babysitters, local daycares, residents and visitors to bring their children to one of our locations for lunch,” said Suzanne Erwin, summer food program contact for the district.
The program, which is funded through the U.S. The Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service, and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, has been increasingly popular over the years. It requires no registration or identification from children who are hungry.
“Children do not need to be enrolled in our school district and there is no income requirement,” said Erwin. “Visiting youngsters are also welcome.”
All meals must be consumed on site.
