Catt. Co. museum to host WNY Fiddle Kids on June 14
MACHIAS, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Museum and Research Library, located in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, will hold special open hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14 for its annual Family Day at the Museum, including a performance by a group of young local musicians.
Family Day is an event that runs as part of New York State Tourism’s “Path Through History” weekend, which aims to foster special events statewide and create excitement about exploring museums, parks and natural spaces. The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for families who, due to work or school schedules, might have trouble making it to the museum during regular operating hours. Visitors can view the museum’s exhibits and displays, including the recently restored regimental flag of the 37th NY Volunteer Infantry as well as a new exhibit of wedding dresses from Cattaraugus County.
At noon there will be a performance by the Western New York Fiddle Kids, a group of young local musicians led by Heather Pennington, a resident of East Concord. The performers range between about 9 and 18 years of age and play fiddles and guitars.
The musical performance will take place under an event tent on the museum’s lawn, rain or shine. Some seating will be available, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs if they wish. This event is free and open to the public.
