The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is offering a free two-day workshop for K-12 teachers to help them integrate Indigenous knowledge and resources into their lesson plans and library collections.
The workshop, “Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge and Resources into K-12 Classroom Practices,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 in the Mukaiyama University Room in Frame-Westerberg Commons. Lunch will be provided both days.
The workshop will be led by Ja:no’s-Janine R. Bowen, language director at the Seneca Nation (Allegheny Territory) and Indigenous educator specializing in teacher professional development.
Other workshop speakers include Jenelle E. Jensen, academic librarian; Dr. Patricia Lanzon, assistant professor and coordinator of the early level education program; and Dr. William Clark, assistant professor and coordinator of secondary education.
Educators who attend both days can receive up to 12 PA ACT 48 continuing education hours.
The workshop also is open to Pitt-Bradford education students and professors, who can earn a certificate of completion if they attend four sessions and complete a lesson plan by March 14. However, students and their professors are encouraged to attend even if they do not plan to apply for a certificate of completion.
