The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Kaleidoscope children’s arts series will end its 10th season the way it began its first, with a TheatreWorks USA live performance of the children’s classic “Charlotte’s Web.”
An evening family performance will begin at 7 p.m. May 3 in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall. Tickets include a pre-show petting zoo, which begins at 6 p.m. All seats cost $10.
“It seemed fitting to bring back this beloved story to end our 10th Anniversary year-long celebration,” said Patty Colosimo, director of arts programming.
“Charlotte’s Web” is one of 17 different shows that TheatreWorks USA is currently touring throughout the United States. We are excited to be expanding the Kaleidoscope series while offering new, cutting-edge programs for children and their families as we look to the next 10 years.”
The performance closely follows E.B. White’s loving story of a friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a gray spider named Charlotte.
Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, an excellent writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman. She creates a “miracle.”
Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution that not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale, featuring madcap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.
Children from several area school districts will have a chance to see the show during the day.
