The Bradford boys tennis was blanked 8-0 in its season opener with St. Marys at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford courts Thursday.
Both Joey Lewis and Dylan Aiello blanked Bradford’s Collin Haskins and Troy Tabios in their singles matches, while Zach Hart (6-2, 6-1) defeated Joe Yaros and Adam Snyder (3-6, 6-2, 10-3) won a hard-fought battle with the Owls’ Brett DeGolier.
“This was a tough opener for us,” Bradford tennis coach Mark Sherman said. “St. Marys is solid from top to bottom.
“Brett had a real nice match for us, as Snyder is one of the premier kids in the District.”
The duos of Snyder/Hart, Lewis/Aiello and Cody Schaberl/Kyle Gardener will also victorious for the Dutch in doubles matchups.
Bradford returns to the court Tuesday when it hosts Johnsonburg.
“We are going to get better,” Sherman said. “The younger kids now know what they are going to have to do.”
