Elk County announces preliminary election results

Unofficial results for several Elk County election races were available Tuesday night.

According to preliminary results, Republican candidate Louis Radkowski will take over as the new mayor of the City of St. Marys for the next four years, taking 1,304 votes, while Democratic candidate Lyle H. Garner received 968 votes.

As for three four-year terms on St. Marys City Council, the following three received the most votes: Robert Bob Mohr, 1,411 votes; Margie Brown, 1,328 votes; and Christopher Pletcher, 1,236 votes. They won over Martha Betsy Healy, who received 1,130 votes; and Rich Schweikart, who received 891 votes.

In Ridgway Borough, it appears Republican Guillermo Udarbe will retain his position as mayor, a four-year term. Udarbe received 499 votes, compared to Democratic challenger Don Airgood’s 223 votes.

The following people were elected to four-year terms on Ridgway Borough Council: Steve Caggeso, 548 votes; Sam McDonald, 530 votes; Ronald Burkett, 412 votes; and Keith A. Mader Jr., 375 votes. They beat out Ralph Dussia and Steve Keener, who had 344 and 282 votes, respectively.

It appears Democrat Christopher Klase will take on a six-year term as a Ridgway Township supervisor, while competitor Mike Beaver, a Republican, will take on a four-year term as a supervisor. They were each on the ballot for both seats.

With 510 votes, Randy Gradizzi, a Democrat, will take on a six-year term for Fox Township supervisor, beating Republican Matthew D. Pontzer, who received 456 votes.

Under school board races, Robert Bert Sorg, 654 votes, and Margaret Brown, 622 votes, will fill two four-year term for St. Marys Area School director; Region I, beating Cly Hornung, who had 590 votes. In St. Marys Area School director Region III, Bryan A. Chiappelli won a four-year term with 810 votes, while competitor Melissa R. Lundin had 792 votes.

The following won four-year terms as Ridgway Area School directors: Aimee Kemick, 916 votes; Rita Buhite, 892 votes; Padraic McGrath, 870 votes; and Kristie Bennardi, 790 votes. William A. Seely was the sole candidate who did not receive a director’s seat, taking 496 votes.

Several seats were not contested on the ballot on Tuesday.

District Attorney Shawn T. McMahon will hold that position for another four years, preliminary election results indicate. He ran unopposed.

Likewise, it appears District Judge Mark Jacob, who also ran uncontested, will retain his seat in district 59-3-03 for another six years. The district includes St. Marys City and Benezette, Fox and Jay townships.

    C. Doug Ruffo ran uncontested for a six-year term as Benezette Township supervisor, but he received only 45 votes compared to 58 write-in votes. It was unclear at press time Tuesday who won.

Preliminary results indicate that the following supervisor candidates did win their uncontested races in Elk County: Matthew J. Vaughn, four-year term, Highland Township; Jeremy Rippey, six-year term, Jay Township; Laurie Storrar, six-year term, Jones Township; Gordan Kent Buzard Sr., six-year term, Horton Township; Gary Blair, six-year term, Millstone Township; Donna S. Kosick, six-year term, Spring Creek Township; Mark Gasbarre, two-year term, Spring Creek Township.

All four Johnsonburg Borough council candidates should be sitting for the next four years in the seats: Louis G. Imbrogno, Alfred Aljoe Maletto, Stephanie Carnessali and Ronald King.

Uncontested school board race winners were David J. Allegretto, four-year term Johnsonburg Area School director Region III; and Courtney Szymanski Dunworth, four-year term as a Johnsonburg Area School director, Region I; James J. Condon, four-year term for St. Marys Area School director, Region II; and Timothy H. Frey, two-year term for St. Marys Area School director, Region II.
