In the mood for leek-scalloped potatoes or leek soup? How about some wild leek vodka?
Look no further than CJ Spirits’ second annual Leekfest, scheduled for Saturday at 120 Willow Run Drive near Kane.
“We are very excited about this year’s Leekfest and the release of our Wilds Leek Vodka,” said CJ Spirits co-owner Tom Jones. “Last year was the first year we did the leek vodka and the Leekfest. We had always wanted to make leek vodka since leeks are so popular here in this area. It turned out really nice. We were able to capture the essence of the leek without it being too overpowering. It makes an outstanding Bloody Mary.”
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., chainsaw carving, art and jewelry will be showcased.
A leek dip contest is slated to run from noon to 4 p.m. Categories include people’s choice and judge’s choice. Winners will receive a plaque and a CJ Spirits gift card.
“We’ll be serving leek soups, pastas, leek-scalloped potatoes and leek-sausage sandwiches all day,” Jones said.
A Bloody Mary bar will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the cost will be $5.
There will also be live music at the Leekfest. An acoustic set will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Co. Townes will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
“Last year’s event was really well attended,” Jones said. “I’m expecting a couple hundred people during the course of the day. We recently added a new pavilion onto the distillery. We are hoping the weather holds off and we can have our bands outside under the pavilion as well as the food. We will have an outdoor bar as well.”
