Poor shooting was the main factor to why Bradford fell to
Allegany-Limestone 51-45 in girls non-league basketball Friday.
The Lady Owls only made 19-of-65 field goals.
“We didn’t shoot well,” stated Doug Lloyd, Bradford coach. “We
only shot 20 some percent.”
Leading the Lady Owls (4-16 overall, 2-10 District 9) were
Brittni Wiseman (12 points), Jody Irons (7 boards), Michele Keane
(7 boards) and Erica Siffrinn (4 assists).
“Wiseman was all over the floor,” said Lloyd. “She is really
finding her rhthym. Siffrinn also played great. She pressured the
ball well.”
Bradford was held to just six points in the first quarter.
“Other than shooting, we played well,” Lloyd added. “We played
hard but we came out a little slow. We missed some easy shots
early. We ran our offense but the shots wouldn’t fall.”
On a positive note, the Lady Owls got great scoring
contributions from their bench.
“Tricia Ekas, Caroline Morris and Jody Irons came off the bench
and really helped us. Between the three of them they gave us 19
points,” Lloyd mentioned.
Carrying A-L were Lindsay Stoddard (16 points) and Caitlin
Martin (15 points).
“A-L has a nice team,” Lloyd commented. “Stoddard really handles
the ball well. Her penetration on our zone defense really hurt us.
A-L hit some big threes at key times which set us back.”
Coach Lloyd was impressed with how Bradford’s Theresa Skillman
and Kyle Hannon handled A-L’s inside game.
“Skillman and Hannon played well,” Lloyd praised. “We thought
they were going to do more inside but we did well defending
them.”
The Lady Owls are back in action at St. Marys on Tuesday.
