It will be a packed field for the May primary election in McKean County.
Tuesday was the deadline for filing nomination petitions to be listed on the ballot in the May 21 municipal primary election.
There are two district attorney candidates hoping to clinch the Republican ballot for the fall general election, incumbent Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer and current chief public defender Phil Clabaugh, himself a former assistant DA.
In the race for county commissioner, each party will advance two candidates to the November general election. Two Democrats, Clifford Lane and Kortney Regis, will presumably advance to the general election. Three Republicans are seeking the two spots on the Republican ballot: Carol Duffy, Thomas Kreiner and Brett Richard Morgan. Lane and Duffy are both vying for re-election, while the others are newcomers hoping to claim the commissioner role.
For county coroner, the lone candidate seeking the Democratic ballot to continue on to the general election is Jeffrey Carson. Two Republicans are seeking their party’s nod: incumbent Michael Cahill and challenger Michael Mascho.
The district attorney, county commissioner and coroner are all four-year terms.
For the county treasurer’s seat, acting treasurer Sherrie Himes Swanson is being challenged for the Republican ballot by Melissa Jo Smith. It is a two-year term.
Incumbent Republicans Anne Bosworth and Wendy Yaros are running unopposed in their respective races — recorder of deeds for Bosworth and register of wills for Yaros. Both are four-year terms.
SCHOOL BOARDS
• For Bradford Area School District, there will be five seats open in the general election. Each party has five spots on the ballot to fill, to continue on to the fall general election.
Five candidates are running on both tickets: Gretchen Daugherty, Carla J.M. Manion, Frances Forbes, Paul Ridley and Vickie L. Baker. Two candidates are seeking only the Republican nomination, Stephanie Scrivo and Matthew Lamade.
Incumbents for these seats include Ridley, Manion, Forbes and Baker.
• For the Kane Area School District, three candidates are running on both tickets for five available seats. Incumbents Thomas Kerek and Scott Paul are running on both the Republican and Democratic ticket, as is newcomer Derek Dangelo. Meanwhile, incumbent Adam Risinger is running on the Republican ticket only.
• In the Otto-Eldred School District, Marlene Lang is running for Region I (Otto Township) and is listed on both the Republican and Democratic tickets. For Region III (Eldred Borough and Ceres Township), Cynthia Murphy is listed on both the Democratic and Republican ticket, while Matthew Windsor is running on the Republican ticket only. Both of the races are for seats with a four-year term.
• For the Port Allegany School District, incumbent Erica Petruzzi is running on both the Republican and Democratic ticket, while incumbent Justin Fillhart is running only on the Republican ticket. The two are vying for four-year terms, five of which are available.
• In the Smethport Area School District, incumbents Ray Learn and Nancy O’Day have announced their intent to run for re-election. Both are running as Republicans in Region I (Norwich Township and Smethport Borough). In Region III (Keating Township 1st and 2nd Districts), incumbent Jason Gary Tronetti is running on both tickets.
BRADFORD
Incumbent Tom Riel is unopposed for the Republican ballot for Bradford City mayor, a four-year term. Slim Lewis is seeking the Democratic nod.
For Bradford City treasurer, two candidates are seeking the Republican nomination, incumbent Karen Hector and current councilman Tim Pecora.
One four-year seat on city council is up for election, and incumbent Daniel Palmer is running on the Republican ticket.
SUPERVISORS
• In Bradford Township, one six-year supervisor term is up for election. Stephan Pettinato, Robert Burrell, Laree Sue Behan and Mark Cline are all vying to be the Republican candidate who advances to the fall general election.
Democrat Jeffrey Carson is running unopposed for the primary.
• In Foster Township, Republican George Hocker is running unopposed in the primary for the six-year supervisor seat.
• In Annin Township, three Republican candidates are vying for one ballot spot for a six-year term — Peter Causer, John Barr and Donald E. Swinehart. For one two-year seat, Dennis Thomas is seeking the Republican nod, as are Barr and Swinehart.
• In Ceres Township, Republican Anthony AJ Plants is listed as seeking the nod for the six-year supervisor seat.
• In Corydon Township, incumbent Dennis Faucher is listed on the Republican ticket for the six-year supervisor seat.
In Eldred Township, Republican Jeffrey Rhinehart is running for the six-year supervisor seat.
Hamlin Township has one six-year supervisor seat open, and currently Republican James L. Trussell is listed on the ticket.
• For Hamilton Township, one six-year supervisor seat is open, and Republican Brian Bastow is running for the position.
• In Keating Township, the six-year supervisor seat has Republican candidate David McClain listed and the two-year supervisor seat has one candidate listed, Democrat Robert Wheeler.
• For the Lafayette Township supervisor seat, a six-year term, Republican John Ryan is the only candidate listed.
• Liberty Township has one six-year term for supervisor up for election. Republican Fred W. Ernst III is the sole candidate listed. Meanwhile, there is also a two-year term for supervisor up for election, and Republican Neil Shepard is the lone candidate for that seat.
• In Norwich Township, one six-year term for supervisor is up for election, and the candidates for that seat include Democrat Ronald C. Zetwick Jr. and Republican James Thomas.
• In Otto Township, a six-year term for supervisor is up for election. Republicans Michael G. Ogilvie and Eric Barton are vying for their party’s nomination to advance to the general election.
• Wetmore Township has one six-year seat for supervisor up for election, and currently Republican Stephen D. Dyne is listed as candidate.
BOROUGHS
• In Eldred Borough, Democrats Jeremy Prescott and Kimberly Weikart are vying for four-year seats on the council, of which there are three available.
• In Kane Borough, four council seats with four-year terms are open. Democratic candidates are Katharine Johnson and Shana Snyder, while Republican candidates listed include Thomas C. Kase, Glenn A. Robinson, David Alan Walker and Larry Scott Rudolph. One seat with a two-year term is open, and candidates for that seat include Democrat Katharine Johnson and Republicans Linda Kerek and Larry Scott Rudolph.
• For Lewis Run Borough Council, two four-year seats are open. Democratic candidates Dianna L. DeCasper and Irvin R. Swartz Jr., both incumbents, are listed as seeking the seats.
• Three seats are open for Mount Jewett borough council, and the candidates are as follows: Democrat Diana Rankin and Republicans Mark Dillenbeck and Robin Engl-Taylor.
• In Port Allegany, Republican Kate M. Kysor is listed as a candidate for a four-year term on council.
• In Smethport Borough, candidates for three, four-year terms on council include Republicans Ryan D. Yingling, Brian L. Gustafson and Dick Ognen.
