Work suspended at new Buffalo Bills stadium again: ‘This behavior is unacceptable’

Work at the new Buffalo Bills stadium has been put on pause again.

Gilbane | Turner, the construction management company behind the venue that will soon replace Highmark Stadium, told WIVB that concerns were raised after graffiti was discovered over the weekend “in several secure locations in both finished and unfinished areas of the stadium project site.”

“We suspended work and launched a full investigation in partnership with the trade contractors and unions to send a clear message about how seriously we take this matter,” a statement said. “Gilbane | Turner maintains zero tolerance for graffiti, vandalism, or defacement of property on our projects. Such actions damage property, violate the law, and undermine the respectful, professional environment we are committed to maintaining.

“We work diligently to create a jobsite environment that everyone can be proud of. This behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards we expect on this project.”

Details of the graffiti were not disclosed.

Gilbane | Turner briefly suspended the $1.7 billion project in 2024 when a suspected hate symbol was discovered on the site. A police investigation determined there was no criminal activity and the display was not malicious.

The new stadium in Orchard Park., is expected to be completed before the 2026 football season. The Bills’ final game at Highmark Stadium had some officials worried about fan behavior as Bills Mafia said goodbye in January.

Buffalo Bills players saw this coming: Training staff complaints surfaced before team’s injury nightmare

Buffalo Bills players foresaw an issue with their training staff ahead of a season in which the team was plagued with injuries.

The NFL recently filed a grievance over the NFLPA’s annual report cards. The league wanted to prevent the NFLPA from publicizing criticisms of teams, owners and staff. The league won the ruling, but the 26-page ruling from arbitrator Scott E. Buchheit was recently obtained by Pro Football Talk. In the document were a few complaints from anonymous Bills players.

Their main concerns? The current training staff and travel.

Buffalo Bills: The Union dropped the Club in the overall rankings from prior years because ‘issues . . . previously raised [by Players] . . . have not been addressed and thus have become greater concerns[.]’ The Union claimed Players were concerned that ‘current [training] staffing is inadequate to help them recover,’ and ‘travel continues to be the worst part of their experience’ because they ‘do not have a comfortable amount of space when traveling and the travel schedule itself is a source of significant dissatisfaction.’

From training camp to the end of their playoff run, Buffalo saw injuries pile up. Per Rotowire, the Bills lost 246 games to injury this season. The only teams that saw more players go down with injury were the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

Several key contributors were among those who missed time in 2025. The biggest names included Ed Oliver, Michael Hoecht, Dalton Kincaid, Joshua Palmer, Max Hairston, Taron Johnson, Terrel Bernard and Taylor Rapp.

For now, however, things will not be changing with the training staff. The team announced in early February that they would be maintaining their strength and conditioning staff.

“I think the alignment and the collaboration that Joe (Brady) and I will have, let’s just say, with (head athletic trainer) Nate Breske, (director of sports performance) Joe Collins and (head strength and conditioning coach) Will Greenberg, kind of, that’s the three-headed monster that kind of is player performance for us,” Beane told the media. “I think the five of us will get very much get in sync, and I would expect that (number of injuries) to improve.”
