Bradford man sent to state prison for rape of child
SMETHPORT — A Bradford man convicted of raping a child was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to 20 to 40 years in state prison.
Andrew Wegemer Silsby, 38, formerly of East Main Street in Foster Township, had pleaded guilty to one count each of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. He was found to be a sexually violent predator and is not eligible for early parole. He was also sentenced to three years of consecutive probation.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg Shaffer said that on Sept. 26, 2016, and continuing through March 1, 2024, Silsby engaged in the indecent behavior. Police said he began having sexual contact with a juvenile female when she was 10 years old.
Shaffer said her office sought the higher of the minimum sentence available in the sentencing guidelines.
He was represented by Warren attorney Alan Conn.
