Pitt-Bradford to Celebrate Men’s Basketball Title at Home Opener
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men’s basketball team will be playing their first home game of the season on Wednesday night against Grove City. Along with opening their home slate, the Panthers will also be celebrating last season’s AMCC Championship Tournament with a short pregame presentation and banner unveiling.
The Panthers, who won the program’s first AMCC title in over 20 years last season, will be taking on Grove City in a non-conference matchup. With tipoff slated to begin at 7:00 p.m., the pregame ceremony is scheduled to start approximately 15 minutes before the start of the action.
“While there are many new faces here this year, it is important to recognize the accomplishments of last years team and the foundation they have set moving forward,” said new head men’s basketball coach Daniel Smay.
This season, Pitt-Bradford is off to a 2-1 start, winning their opener at Houghton before splitting a pair of games over the weekend at the John K. Adams Tipoff Classic, hosted by Rutgers-Newark. They are led by junior guard Jeremy Rodriguez, who is averaging 23.0 points per game. Four other Panthers are also averaging double digits points per game. Returners Tra Edwards and Coby Farley have stepped into the starting lineup and are scoring 13.3 and 12.3 points per game. Newcomers Clarence Cobbins and Niare Poplar add 10.3 and 10.0 points per game respectively.
Grove City is off to a 1-2 start, dropping a matchup with Pitt-Greensburg in their opening game, before splitting a tipoff tournament at Geneva. The Wolverines are led by senior guard Mike Christenson, who averages 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
In addition to the pregame celebration, the Pitt-Bradford Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting canned goods, pasta and dry cereal in the main lobby to be donated to the Friendship Table.
