Insider reveals new details about Steelers’ upcoming throwback uniforms
The Pittsburgh Steelers will reveal their new throwback uniforms for the 2025 season on July 21, according to Andrew Lind of SportsLogos.org.
Lind, who broke the news the Steelers would be getting new uniforms this season, says they will resemble the Steelers’ yellow throwbacks from 2007 to 2011, with differnet striping on the arms.
The Steelers will a have new gold helmet and jersey that is not in the style of their color rush alternate uniforms.
On July 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers will unveil new yellow throwback helmets and matching uniforms, which our sources have now indicated will not be their current Color Rush design, but rather more closely resemble the throwback uniforms they wore from 2007 to 2011, as the striping pattern on the sleeves differs slightly,” Lind said.
The Steelers said in May they would wear the throwback helmets and uniforms for their Sunday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers.
“We are going to have a new throwback uniform this year, and with a new helmet to go with it. We’re planning to wear our new throwbacks for the Packers game on Sunday night, Oct. 26. It’ll be fun to wear our throwbacks against one of the older franchises in the league – that just seems to be appropriate. We’ll be doing our color rush uniforms late in the year. I think we’re going to do it for the Monday night game on Dec. 15 against the Miami Dolphins,” team president Art Rooney II said.
Since 2010, the Steelers have had just one helmet. The NFL has mandated that teams have only one type of helmet shell for player safety concerns, though teams could change the helmets’ designs if they wish,
However, that changed in 2022, when the NFL changed the rule, allowing teams to wear different helmets with alternate uniforms, some teams have taken advantage of that change.
The Steelers wore gray facemasks in 2024 with throwback uniforms, harkening back to the 1970s teams. Pittsburgh wore gray facemasks until 1977 when they changed them to black.
The Steelers last had an alternate helmet in 2009, when they wore gold helmets with their 1960s-inspired throwback uniforms.
