The Women’s Literary Club met Friday at Togi’s, with President Carol Shannon welcoming everyone to the group’s first regular meeting of the year. This is the 137th year of the Women’s Literary Club.
Vice President Holly Puglio introduced the guest speaker Elizabeth Behan Clark, who gave a program titled “Photography.” Behan, who is from the Bradford area, currently resides in Lewis Run and had an interest in photography from her early years. She became involved with her high school yearbook and knew this was her passion.
Behan also informed the club that October is “National Women’s Small Business Month.” It is a time to recognize and support our own local women entrepreneurs. She asked that we spread the word and support women’s small businesses through our support and encouragement.
Behan said that she decided to make photography a business in 2016. Then finally, in 2020, was able to make it into a full-time business and career. Elizabeth stated that she considers her style to be light and airy, with a touch of romance and simplicity.
She wants her photographs to evoke emotion and create a story. Her overall goal is to capture images in the most natural way possible. Behan also provides style tips before you are photographed.
After the speaker, Shannon thanked the hostess and program committee for all the decorations and the great speakers the club will have this year. She introduced past presidents and gave each a gift for their service.
Shannon also recognized members’ birthdays. Melissa Colligan read the correspondence and Judy Yorks, treasurer, read the new budget, which was approved as written.
Shannon further announced that the Literary Club now has a Facebook page, Women’s Literary Club Bradford, where people can follow events and see pictures of our events and news.
Card day will be Oct. 11 at the Bradford Library, with a luncheon provided. On Oct. 20, the next program will be “My After Life” presented by David McElwee.
