Another volleyball filled weekend for the 33rd Annual FOOTErest Volleyball Tournament, which was held this past weekend at Bettum’s Idlewood Family Campground in Lewis Run.
Team “Dew Crew” won the top honors over the weekend.
With a great turnout of teams arriving to battle it out all weekend, the weather was great on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament was a great success with great competition from many states — mostly Pennsylvania and New York, but also including Virginia.
The co-ed tournament had three divisions: Open, Power and Semi-power. The tournament is held with all teams playing in round robin pool play Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. After that, a bonus 2-on-2 tournament was squeezed in Saturday evening. To complete the weekend the double-elimination play for the 6-on-6 teams was run Sunday all day winding down about 4:30p p.m. on Sunday.
The open division teams (Division “AA”) playing in the round robin play Saturday with team “Dew Crew”, (Irwin, Pa), coming out on top of their division with a record of 7-0. The power division (Division “A”) teams also played round robin Saturday with team “Crofut”, (Wellsboro, PA); rounding out their day on top with a record of 9-1.
The semi power division (Division B), saw team “D. J. Jamen” (Wellsville, NY); clinch their division with a record of 8-0.
The 2-on-2 games started Saturday afternoon with eight teams battling for the bragging rights to the additional endurance event held after the 6-on-6 play.
The 2-on-2 title was captured by Shawn Payne and Chris Kiripolsky (Buffalo). Their first time at the Footerest tourney. They beat out Jim Gavin (Etters, Pa.) and Shawn Wilson (Alexandria, Va.). Chris and Shawn won it the hard way by coming back through the losers’ bracket and holding the feet of the winners to the fire to post an additional round of wins and the championship win.
Sundays 6-on-6 double elimination game play began at 10 a.m. and saw the Open teams, Power teams and Semi-power teams square off in a double elimination day.
At the days end we saw the Semi-power Division controlled by team “D. J. Jamen’”, who wanted no part of the long hot day, so they went undefeated beating out team “Kiss”, (Canisteo, NY) as the day wound down to clinch the division for the tournament win. The Power Division was successfully controlled by team “Volleyllamas” (Eden, NY), who traveled straight through to the winner’s bracket beating out team “Glizzy Gladiators” (Bernville, PA).
The Open Division is always a nail biter when team “Dew Crew” (Irwin, PA) walked all the way thru the winners bracket undefeated for the win.
“Dew Crew” handed “Big Dig Energy” (Buffalo, NY) the losses they needed to be sent home in second place. The “Dew Crew” gained the ultimate bragging rights of the best of the best for the weekend and became the team to beat in 2025 at the 34th annual FooteRest Volleyball tournament.
The 34th anniversary of the event will be held on July 12-13th 2025. The proceeds from the event benefit the Evergreen Elm Activities fund.
