SMORES: It’s summertime, and time for that annual tasty treat made best over campfires — smores. The toasted marshmallow and chocolate treat between two graham crackers is a messy and marvelous childhood staple.
As with anything, there are variations on the classic recipe. Some call for using Rice Krispie Treats instead of graham crackers, or cookie batter instead of chocolate, or cookies with a melted marshmallow between them. Some suggest replacing the chocolate with a peppermint patty or peanut butter cup.
What about popcorn smores? Popcorn.org has a recipe for just that.
Ingredients: 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar, 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 10 cups freshly popped popcorn, 1 package (10 1/2 ounces) miniature marshmallows, 2 cups mini graham cookies (teddy bears), 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions: Combine brown sugar, butter and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Cook over high heat for 5 minutes; remove from heat and stir in baking soda. Combine popcorn and marshmallows in a large bowl. Pour sugar mixture over popcorn to coat. Gently stir in graham cookies and chocolate chips. Spread mixture evenly into a greased 15 x 10 inch pan. Let cool completely. Break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
The website https://themanylittlejoys.com/campfire-eclairs/ suggested making campfire eclairs, using ingredients: 1 package crescent roll dough, a small package vanilla pudding, 1 jar Nutella. Directions: Cover the end of a large stick in foil, wrap crescent roll dough around it and cook it over the fire until the outside is golden and not doughy. Take it off the stick, fill it with vanilla pudding and top it with Nutella.
Yum!
