WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four St. Bonaventure players have earned postseason recognition with the release of the 2024 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams. Senior Adam Rankie was selected to the outfield First Team while junior David Marshall Jr. received a Second Team shortstop selection with graduate student Jack Putney and sophomore Noah Czajkowski honored on the All-Academic Team.
Rankie becomes the 17th Atlantic 10 First Team selection in St. Bonaventure history after recording one of the best seasons ever by a Bonnies hitter. He ranked second among all A-10 players in hits this season with 73, a mark that also stands fourth in program history. Only Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Brandon Eike of VCU had more hits for an A-10 player this year (77).
The Lockport, N.Y. native stood in the conference’s top 10 in batting average (.348, t-7th), doubles (15, t-5th), triples (three, t-4th) and at-bats (210, fourth). His 23-game hitting streak during the season was the longest by an A-10 player this year and the second-longest ever by an SBU player.
Rankie also had 23 multi-hit games, the most by a Bonaventure player since Jesse Bosnik had 24 in 2010. He finished the year with a .399 on-base percentage, led the team in OPS (.890) and hit .357 with runners in scoring position while scoring a team-best 40 runs. In Atlantic 10 play, he hit .349 with a .388 on-base. He played all three outfield positions during the year, mostly in right with 38 starts there.
He wrapped the season with 21 extra-base hits and became the eighth Bonaventure player to tally over 100 total bases in a year (103). A junior college transfer, he posted a two-year Division I career batting average of .327 with 130 total hits in 95 games as a Bonnie.
Rankie is the first Atlantic 10 First Team pick for the Bonnies baseball program since Cole Peterson (SS) and Aaron Phillips (SP) were selected in 2017. Bona’s last First Team All-A-10 outfielder was Randy Moley in 2008.
Marshall made an immediate splash with the Bonnies in his first season at the Division I level after transferring from the junior college ranks. He started all but the last game of the season at shortstop this year, hitting .313 with four homers and 35 RBIs. His .405 on-base percentage was highest among Bona’s regulars.
The Downers Grove, Ill. native had 19 multi-hit games to his credit and was at his best statistically in conference play as he produced a slash line of .326/.426/.465 in 23 Atlantic 10 starts. With runners in scoring position, he hit .375 on the year. Defensively, he owned a fielding percentage of 94 percent at short.
Czajkowski and Putney were both honored for their work on the field combined with their academic success.
Putney, a graduate captain in his fifth year with the team, recorded a 3.81 cumulative GPA in his MBA program this year. Last season, he was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team after earning his undergraduate degree in finance.
On the field, he again served as the team’s regular third baseman while making 44 starts with a .266 batting average this spring. He led the team with a career-high seven home runs and recorded 30 RBIs. His 73 total bases stood behind only Rankie and Marshall in the team ranks. A native of Clarence, N.Y., he finished his career with a two-run homer on Senior Day which turned out to be the game-winner for the Bonnies, closing his time in a Bonaventure uniform with a career .275 batting average, 11 homers and 65 RBIs over 137 games including 123 starts.
Czajkowski enjoyed a breakout sophomore season while excelling with a 3.93 cumulative GPA as a biology major.
A native of North Huntingdon, Pa., Czajkowski was part of the Bonnies’ Atlantic 10 starting rotation for much of the year, making 15 total appearances with 10 starts. He led the pitching staff in wins with four and ranked second on the team by striking out 48 batters in 53.1 innings of work.
The second-year Bonnie earned the win in relief at Penn State with 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out three without a walk in mid-March, then recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings at UMass in early May before bettering that in his final appearance of the year, an eight strikeout effort with just one earned run and walk allowed vs. Fordham.
Bona’s four all-conference selections mark the most for the program since the 2017 season.
