PART 3: Here’s the last part of the story from Bradford Lion E.E. Lindemuth about his hometown that appeared in a 1924 edition of The Era during the start of the Lions Club in Bradford.
“Rotary has had a club here for two years which has been doing its part in serving the community.
“The Lion’s club, the latest addition to the town’s social life, has a roar that has already been heard from Limestone to Ludlow and from Bradford to Betula, which is highly commendable in a yearling club. The pep and ability of its members insure its ment. It ranks highest in popularity and usefulness to the community; and every one of them is a booster for 100 percent Pennsylvania oil.”
He goes on to praise the fire department of Bradford, remarking that the community feels great pride in the department. “It ranks highest in efficiency of any city in Pennsylvania, of its size, or twice its size. The city’s fire loss during the past 10 years has been but four-fifths of one percent a year on valuations at risk. During these 10 years, there have been but nine fires entailing a loss of as much as $10,000 — three on buildings and six on contents.
“All of which goes to show that Bradford Lions have selected a first class den with all modern improvements as their habitat.
“If you don’t believe it you are cordially invited to come and look it over. The latchstring to Bradford is always open and the visitor is warmly welcomed.”
We hope you enjoy these looks back in history at the Bradford of old. We certainly do. There aren’t a lot of photos in the old papers, but the words do a nice job painting a picture.
