The election season is warming up, and the economy is hotter. The GOP needs a new leader, but only former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has credentials AND integrity.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden sticks to his proven game plan of increasing jobs and supporting a peaceful resolution in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza. He brought us back from Covid to face a strong future.
Americans finally notice a growing economy and inflation dropping to 3.4% last year. After some bleak polls last year, almost 30% consider it excellent/good. The University of Michigan price index showed public sentiment jumped 29% in two months.
Food costs are stubbornly high. Fairlife milk (52 oz.) at the Erie Wegmans dropped 30 cents to $4.99 since I objected to a manager. It’s $4.29 at BJs. Eggs have been stable. Nationwide, one dozen eggs cost a $2.50 average compared to $4.25 a year ago. At BJs two dozen cost $5.79, but organic brands are much higher. Gasoline is close to $3 per gallon nationwide, though below $3.50 locally.
If you don’t like the prices, call or email the manager/regional office.
The president — or any blustering contender — doesn’t tell corporations what to charge for food, gas, cell phones or cars. People should contest rising food costs as gasoline drops. The U.S. added 2.7 million jobs in 2023, nearly a pre-pandemic growth, and new car sales were up 12.8%. The economy is booming, and the Dow Jones average bounced to a 38,000 high.
People should examine these bright spots. Last September, Biden stopped at the UAW strike in Detroit, picked up a bullhorn and told workers they made sacrifices in 2008, “so stick with it.” A month later Ford rewarded workers a 25% raise, paying most workers over $40 hourly. Dreams and persistence work!
Joe Biden believes people who work hard — including immigrants and native-born — empower America. Of America’s 168 million workers last year, 31.3 million foreign-born workers comprised 19% — the most in 27 years, by the Bureau of Labor facts. That’s almost one in five workers making America stronger.
