HS Wrap: Heller tosses no-hitter; Wells leads Jburg; Owl tennis completes comeback

SHINGLEHOUSE — Otto-Eldred’s bats were out in full force Tuesday night, but Bri Heller stole the show in the pitcher’s circle.

Heller threw a no-hitter in the O-E softball team’s 10-0, five-inning victory over Oswayo Valley, striking out 11 batters while issuing just one walk.

“(Heller) threw really well,” O-E coach Roger Veilleux said. “It was her first outing of the year. Our bats came alive tonight better than the night before. To have two pitchers after two games and a 0 earned run average, that’s pretty good.”

Katie Sheeler went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and two runs batted in for the Lady Terrors. Jessie Hall went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Hannah Gordon was 1-for-2 with an RBI double and Suzie Rounsville went 2-for-3 while driving in two runs.

Mackenzie Mesler struck out eight batters for OV.

    Johnsonburg 14, Kane 7

KANE — Julie Peterson had a strong outing on the mound in Johnsonburg’s 14-7 victory over Kane, throwing eight strikeouts and walking just one batter.

And while Peterson allowed five runs in the start, just one of those was earned.

Natalie Dunnworthy went three-for-four at the plate and scored four runs to provide offensive support for Peterson. Julia Jones, Jenna Kasmierski and Peyton Delhunty each had two hits for the Rams.

Madi Stahli totaled two hits, including a two-run homer for Kane. Maya Smith went three-for-three with a double for the Wolves.

    Johnsonburg 16,

    Kane 0, 3 innings

JOHNSONBURG — Ethan Wells had the long ball on his mind, going 3-for-3 at the dish and sending each ball over the fence, as Johnsoburg poured 16 runs on Kane in two innings.

Colin Porter started on the hill for the Rams, tallying four strikeouts against 10 batters faced.

Porter’s additional run support came from Aidan Zimmerman, who went 2-for-3 at the dish including a double and two RBI’s. Caden Smiley tallied a single in his one a-bat, scoring two runners in the process.

Luke Zimmerman, Camron Marcinak and Kaden Dennis each totaled one hit and batted in a run.

Justin Peterson earned five strikeouts in his start for Kane, and Harley Morris got on base with a single in his two appearances.

    Bradford 5, Clearfield 2

CLEARFIELD — The Bradford boys tennis team emerged victorious from a tightly contested match at Clearfield, as Steven Williams and Max Shaw each came from behind in their respective matches to clinch an Owl triumph.

Gabe Tate and Mitchell Strauss got the Owls on the board with a win in third doubles, rebounding after a lost first game by winning eight consecutive. Peyton Haight then won at fourth singles to give Bradford a 2-0 lead.

Shaw fought off a match point before coming back to win, 8-6, in a tense singles match. Williams, meanwhile, climbed back from a 3-0 deficit to win third singles, 9-7.

Carter Colley and Ward Kenny added a victory for the Owls at third doubles, fighting back from two games down to win, 8-6.

    St. Marys 4, Punxsutawney 3

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Ryan Holjencin picked up a win at first singles and Luke Anderson won at third singles, leading St. Marys over Punxsy.

Anderson and Blake Hoffman added a win at second doubles, while Colten Vollmer and Sean Radkowski won in third doubles.
