LOOKING BACK: The Era is working on a special section that will feature photos from the past. We want to provide a chance to show moments in time that make our area great.

Our historical section will print in February. Our deadline for submissions is Feb. 3.

We welcome photos of anything that shows the history of McKean County, like any photos from past floods, heavy snowfalls or natural disasters. The Christmas window at Emery Hardware is a popular topic for reminiscing. We hope someone has a photo of this to share as well.

Other ideas for photos to share include: the Eldred Munitions plant, the old schools, stores that aren’t in business anymore or the Armory when it was functional and the folks who trained there.

Rallies in support of the World War would be another option for families who have those photos tucked away somewhere.

Another potential submission would be photos of Holgate and any toys they created. There was a time when each new baby born in the area got a car from Holgate. Do you have a photo of someone with the car? Please share.

These are not the only photos we are hoping to receive. We are hoping that the photos will be from any time period prior to 1980 and show something memorable that other area residents would be interested to see.

We realize that with older photos, that isn’t likely to be the case. You can also mail photos to The Bradford Era, 43 Main St., Bradford, PA 16701. Please only mail photos that you don’t want returned.

If it is a photo you want to share but keep the original, please stop by The Era after 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and we will scan the photo and return it to you before you leave.
