CANDY: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and we know that Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Christmas candy, as the songs say.

We visited Candystore.com to see what preferences people have for their holiday treats.

It seems that Peppermint Bark is a favorite for much of the Midwest, and candy canes have their fans in a few places, too.

And we are happy to note that Pennsylvania loves its chocolate. The number one Christmas candy around these parts is Reese’s Cup Minis. Maryland has the same favorite, as do Indiana, Washington and Oregon.

New York state shoppers chose candy canes. Some other choices were M&Ms in Idaho, Wyoming and Kentucky, and Hershey’s Kisses in Utah and Arizona.

Chocolate Santas were popular in Ohio, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico and North Dakota and South Dakota.

What about the worst candy, you might ask? Well, Candystore.com has that list, too.

Number 10 is Peppermint Bark — weird that it’s also on the favorites list. Number 9 is a chocolate orange, 8 is ribbon candy, seven is non-peppermint candy canes, number 6 is Peeps.

Number 5 is old-fashioned hard candy mix, 4 is Lifesavers Story Book, 3 is Reindeer Corn, 2 is cherry cordials and the worst is Christmas nougat candy.

Here’s some more facts: 93% of people gift chocolate and candy for the winter holidays; 1.76 billion candy canes are produced every year for the holiday season; 72% of people eat a candy cane starting at the straight end, while the rest start on the curved end; and approximately 150 million chocolate Santas are produced annually.
