TIPS: The new edition of The Farmers’ Almanac is out, and there are several helpful tips worth sharing.
The first is to help maintain your headlights. The advice is to try cleaning the plastic with toothpaste and baking soda. It also helps, the almanac says, to use window cleaner on the lights, then apply the toothpaste, mixed with baking soda, using a clean cloth. Following this application, wet the cloth with water and wipe down the plastic again. Dirt should show up on the rag after you have finished.
For an answer to creaky floors, apply talcum powder to cracks around every noisy board. Use a soft-bristled paintbrush to push the powder deep into the cracks. If the noise goes away and then comes back, reapply powder to that area.
Use a quart of hot water and ½ cup of lemon juice combined to degrease your kitchen cabinets and a dollar store magic eraser to help with the process. Finally, clean wooden cutting boards with half a lemon dipped in coarse salt to get rid of bacteria. Scrub well and rinse with water to clean the board.
For natural solutions to heartburn and indigestion, try the following: chew fennel seeds after a large meal, eat fresh papaya or pineapple to help relieve the discomfort of overeating, drink a glass of water at the onset of heartburn or chew a sprig of fresh parsley.
Finally, a use for those socks that end up solo. Tie them to tomato stalks to help protect the plant from bruising. Be forewarned though, in inclement weather, the sock may begin to rot.
