On Aug. 20, 1987, as Paul “Mickey” Buck was leaving work after an evening shift at Motion Control Industries in Ridgway, he was gunned down by an unknown assailant.
Now, nearly 34 years later, Buck’s murder remains unsolved, his killer as yet unknown.
On Monday, Ridgway-based state police said the case remains open and active, and law enforcement officers are hopeful that someone may have information to help them solve the crime.
Buck, a foreman, normally worked the day shift at Motion Control on Gillis Avenue, police said. That evening, he had left work and was walking toward his car when someone fired a handgun at him at close range, someone who had to have been in the parking lot with Buck, officials alleged.
Despite the discovery of physical evidence in 2015, Buck’s murder remains unsolved.
On Sept. 10, 2015, Ridgway Borough Police relinquished all evidence and documents on the case to Ridgway-based state police, as a Major Case Team was assigned the case.
At a press conference in 2015, members of law enforcement said the key that unlocks the case could come from someone who lives near Motion Control, a fellow employee who was interviewed by police, an employee who was interviewed but had information he or she was not asked about or even a spouse who was in the parking lot at that time to pick up an employee at shift change.
They are asking that any possible witnesses speak to investigators. Perhaps someone observed something in the parking between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. that may be useful to law enforcement officials.
Anyone with information on Buck or his death is asked to contact Ridgway-based state police at 814-776-6136, or anonymously by calling Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4-PA-TIPS.
