Families, students and staff members of the Bradford Area Christian Academy (BACA) have been working on a variety of projects to help serve the community during the pandemic. Board Member Shalee Dart told The Era a little about the projects they’ve been working on throughout the community.
“BACA is dedicated to partnering with families to train up the next generation of Christian leaders for a lifetime of service and devotion to their savior, homes, churches, vocations and communities,” explained Dart. “Alongside Biblically-based curriculum, we incorporate community service projects for the students to work on throughout the year. Covid has impacted so many in our neighborhood.”
To help spread God’s love, BACA students handcrafted holiday cards for three local nursing homes, collected diapers and wipes for Bright Alternatives and collected non-perishables for those in need. Additionally, they recently held a food drive to help stock the Blessing Boxes around town.
For the Blessing Box drive, each family purchased items and sent them to school with their BACA students over the course of a two-week period. Dart said they did a fantastic job collecting large quantities and varieties of canned foods, cereals, dressings, pastas, toothbrushes, toothpaste and much more. A total of 37 students from grades pre-K to eighth grade participated in the drive.
After the collection period was over, pre-k through fifth grade students walked down on Friday to help stock the items in the Blessing Boxes on East Corydon Street, at the Church of Ascension and near CJ Wallace Engineering on Boylston Street. Sixth through eighth grade students will be delivering more items on Monday.
“The Blessing Boxes offer an amazing way for the students to physically participate in the delivery of the items,” noted Dart.
BACA serves the educational needs of students in preschool through eight grade. Students study a biblically based curriculum and participate in weekly student-led chapel, as well as in music, art and gym classes. BACA also offers before and after school care, remedial reading, remedial math, enrichment classes and scholarships to help with tuition.
