Cases of COVID-19 are increasing through the region, and local nursing homes are showing an impact.
A notice on the Elk Haven Nursing Home website Wednesday from administrator Arlene Anderson reported 46 active cases among residents, with a cumulative total of 52 cases. She said there have been no residents with a new onset of symptoms within 72 hours.
Seven staff members at the facility have active cases of COVID-19, with a cumulative total of 23. Two staff members have had a new onset of symptoms in the past 72 hours, the notice read.
“As our nation, commonwealth and local community continue to weather the coronavirus pandemic, we believe it is extremely important that accurate communication occur,” Anderson’s notice read. “We are doing what we can to limit the spread of COVID-19 within the facility.
“We are taking steps based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the local Health Department and Emergency Management Agencies to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19.”
The steps she noted included enhancing infection control precautions, screening for symptoms, restricting visitation and entry into the building, testing staff and residents and postponing communal activities.
As of Wednesday, Elk County has had 304 cases of COVID-19. St. Marys, where Elk Haven is located, has had 142 confirmed and 14 probable cases.
According to the health department, two facilities in Elk County have had cases of COVID-19.
Pinecrest Manor has a notice on its site indicating there has been one positive staff case and no resident cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
In McKean County, five nursing homes are listed as having had cases of COVID-19, with 7 cases among residents and 12 among staff.
Sena Kean Manor has a notice on its site explaining the cumulative total of cases there are 2 confirmed resident cases and 9 confirmed staff.
Lutheran Home at Kane has had 4 cumulative staff cases and 2 cumulative cases among residents.
Bradford Ecumenical Home had one staff case at Chapel Ridge Assisted Living, and none among residents.
The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center has had no cases.
The other facilities in the county — Lakeview Senior Care and Bradford Manor — did not have readily accessible information as to possible cumulative COVID case information.
