Frances Sherman VFW Auxiliary met Wednesday in the VFW club rooms.
Charter was draped for past department president Julia Dever.
Nov. 21 will be an early dues party. The names of those who paid their dues early will be entered into a drawing.
A Veteran’s Day dinner will be held Nov. 13 — greet at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Menu choices are Chicken Tuscany, lasagne or meatloaf dinner. Members are asked to donate a dessert. Sign-up sheet will be at the bar. Non-veteran dinners will be $8. VFWA Department President Wendi Hennemann will be the evening’s speaker.
Prior to the evening’s festivities, the auxiliary will be doing luminaries on the Barbour Street side of the VFW building. People can sign up to purchase your veteran one for $5. Proceeds will go to the auxiliary Homeless Veteran Fund.
Nov. 15 will be the District 19 meeting at Port Allegany 6391 at 2 p.m.
The “Veteran’s Kindness Tree” will be on display Nov. 7-14 with veterans tags for our local nursing home veterans. Stop in and pick a veteran to gift for Christmas.
Kids Christmas will be held at noon Dec. 5. Due to COVID-19, a gathering of children will not be happening. A sign-up sheet will be posted for those members in good standing to sign up their children/grandchildren age 10 and under to receive a gift from Santa. This will be a drive by gifting. All attendees are invited to decorate their vehicles for the Santa procession.
Bingo will commence again on Sunday. Early birds start at 2 p.m. Kitchen will be open with a limited menu. Sanitizer will be on tables, and participants will be asked to follow distancing. Come early — there will be a cutoff for how many can enter.
PA Soldiers & Sailors veteran residents need sweatpants and sweatshirts as well as hygiene products. If anyone has a donation, bring it to the club prior to the Nov. 15 District meeting so it can be taken to the chairman.
RADA orders and money are due by Nov. 4.
There will be a Secret Santa Gift Exchange for those who would like to participate. Forms will be at the bar to pick up, fill out and return to Kathy Belleville so they can be handed out at the Nov. 18 meeting.
Scholarship judging will be done on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
Some 100-year pins will be purchased for those who would like to purchase one prior to Frances Sherman Auxiliary’s 100th year.
