A Bradford woman accused of causing an accident while DUI waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Cassandra R. Williams, 29, of 8 Clarence St., is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children, third-degree felonies; two counts of DUI-controlled substance, first-degree misdemeanors; three counts of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and summary charges of reckless driving and disregarding traffic lane.
According to the criminal complaint, at 2:29 p.m. June 16, Williams was operating a vehicle through a construction zone. She was traveling northeast, while traffic traveling in the opposite direction was stopped due to the construction.
As she reached the end of the zone, she allegedly veered left, striking the driver’s side of a vehicle facing southwest that was waiting its turn to move through the construction zone. No one was hurt, but both vehicles sustained disabling damage, the complaint stated.
Williams’s vehicle had three passengers — her boyfriend in the front passenger seat and two children in the back seat. She told officers that she took her eyes off the road because of child behavior issues, according to the complaint.
However, police reported that she was nodding off, had slurred/slowed speech, constricted pupils, pale skin and glassy/bloodshot eyes. Her performance during subsequent field sobriety tests led police to arrest her for DUI, the complaint stated.
During her interactions with police, Williams listed Tramodol and heroin as drugs that might appear in her system in a chemical test, court records stated, and fentanyl was listed elsewhere in the criminal complaint.
Williams is free on unsecured bail.
Also on Wednesday, charges against Zachary M. Koch, 21, of Bradford, were bound to McKean County Court at a hearing before District Judge Richard Luther.
Koch is charged with theft by unlawful taking, a third-degree felony, and two counts of criminal mischief, third-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 28, Koch took a Can-Am DS 70 four-wheeler valued at $1,365 from a South Kendall Avenue residence. The keys had been left in the ignition.
The four-wheeler was taken to another area, where Koch allegedly spray-painted it; then it was taken to Koch’s residence at 111 South Ave.
Koch kept the four-wheeler until it was seized by police, court records stated.
Koch is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Westley C. Hardy, 21, of Cyclone, waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday for allegations he was involved in a police chase.
Hardy is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, a third-degree felony; and summary charges of operating with unsafe equipment, driving an unregistered vehicle, reckless driving and duties at a stop sign.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 23, a Bradford City Police officer was patrolling in the area of Congress Street when he observed a dirt bike operated by Hardy traveling on the street. The officer noticed there was no visible registration on the bike, and attempted to pull it over. Hardy looked over his shoulder at the officer, then proceeded to speed up, travel through stop signs without stopping and pulled out in front of a box truck on South Avenue, nearly being struck, the complaint stated.
Hardy continued into Bradford Township, at speeds of 80 to 85 mph in a 25 mph zone. At one point Hardy raised his hands as if to say he would give up, but then continued “at a high rate of speed,” turning onto Owens Way without stopping. When Hardy continued through a parking lot and toward Minard Run, the officer ended the pursuit, but gave Hardy’s description to the McKean County 9-1-1 Center. A sheriff’s deputy saw the bike crossing Browntown Road, and a Bradford Township Police officer found Hardy at the Crosby on South Avenue, where he was taken into custody, the complaint stated.
Hardy is free, having posted $5,000 bail.
