Indiana Regional Medical Center has served the people of Indiana County for well over a century, dedicating its resources to operating the best health care system in the community. Backed by innovation in technology and personnel, IRMC continues to make strides in maintaining the health and well-being of every patient and employee in the county. With his return from service overseas in Kuwait, Brian Stone, D.O., is primed to continue his work in furthering osteopathic medicine to the benefit all of Indiana County and beyond.
Dr. Stone is a board-certified family medicine physician, specializing in sports medicine. From professional events to local sports teams, Stone has treated orthopedic injuries of all kinds. Prior to his time as a physician, Stone’s beginnings in the medical field stem from his experience in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree with the Army Corps of Engineers from West Point and his master’s in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Stone served in Iraq as an engineer officer. After his second tour, Stone left active duty to join the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army.
From there, Stone went on to receive his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. It was during his family medicine residency with Allegheny Health Network (AHN) that his interest in sports medicine developed, and he would go on to complete his fellowship with AHN. Possessing a plethora of skill sets, IRMC welcomed Stone to its physician group with open arms. Now with his diverse experience in both the military and medicine, Stone would once more bring his services overseas to Kuwait as a major in the U.S. Army.
Stone speaks highly of his time spent in Kuwait, feeling gracious that he was able to put his skill set to full use. The military’s emphasis on fitness was a great segue for the sports medicine specialist. As Stone describes it, elite-level athletes share a similar mindset to soldiers — which meant Stone was working around the clock to make sure his soldiers were at peak performance for both training and recreational activities. Great facilities and even greater minds allowed operations to run smoothly while Stone was overseas.
“We were able to bounce ideas off of each other within multiple specialties,” Stone says. “It was soldiers taking care of soldiers.”
Feeling satisfied with what he accomplished in Kuwait, Stone was excited to get the ball rolling again upon his return. With how family-oriented the Indiana community is, Stone is ready to spend time with both of his families at home and at work.
“I’m ready to start building the practice and develop my skill set,” Stone says. “That way I can take care of the athletes and people around Indiana County.”
