SMETHPORT — After being shut out at Redbank Valley a week ago, Smethport routed District 9 Small School North divisional foe Cameron County Friday night, 39-7.
Smethport (5-1, 4-0) found most of its success on the ground by rushing for 238 yards on 33 carries. Quarterback Noah Lent led the way with 108 yards, while running back Braedon Johnson had 85 and Lucas Fowler added 51 yards.
Fowler struck first for the Hubbers on a 17-yard run, and then added a 21-yard fumble return for a score later on as part of a 27-point first quarter outburst for the Hubbers. Johnson scored on a 52-yard scamper in the quarter, and Lent rounded out Smethport’s first-quarter scoring with an 11-yard run to paydirt.
“I was pleased with how the kids came out of the gates initially,” Smethport coach Adam Jack said. “We talked a lot about bouncing back, but our focus moves forward immediately to the next three games (Keystone, Coudy, Elk County Catholic), which will be very difficult.”
Lent tacked on his second score in the second quarter on a 26-yard run.
Smethport capped off its scoring through the air in the third quarter after Lent connected on a 32-yard pass to Johnson.
It was a resounding performance for a Hubber team that faces a tough stretch as the regular season winds down, and provides some much-needed momentum.
“We continue to play good defense, and we worked some kinks out on offense tonight,” Jack said. “We hope to improve on that as the weeks move forward as we enter that tough stretch.”
Cameron County (0-6, 0-4) avoided the shutout with a 13-yard Nick Peters touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Lent had a game-high 81 yards in the air, while Johnson finished with 59 receiving yards on two catches. Bryent Johnson caught two passes for 22 yards.
The Hubbers visit Keystone next week, while Cameron County hits the road to Union/A-C Valley.

Brookville 44, St. Marys 22
BROOKVILLE — The Raiders’ Jack Krug threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Raiders exploded down the stretch to complete a key D9 Large School victory over St. Marys.
The game was back-and-forth for most of the first half, but Krug connected on two touchdown passes to Ian Thrush to pull Brookville (6-1) ahead after the intermission.
Jacob Kline scored three rushing touchdowns (26, 3, 2 yards) for St. Marys (3-4).
