One injured Thursday in Shippen Twp. crash
EMPORIUM — An Emporium woman was injured in a one-car crash at 1:25 p.m. on Rich Valley Road in Shippen Township on Friday.
Norma Hopwood, 77, had been reported as a missing person prior to the discovery of the crash site at 1:25 p.m. Friday. Emporium-based state police believe the crash happened between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Thursday.
According to police, a car driven by Hopwood was traveling west, when it started to drift off the westbound berm. Trying to straighten out, Hopwood reportedly overcorrected the car, causing the car to rotate 180 degrees counter-clockwise, crossing into both the west and eastbound lanes of travel. Police said Hopwood’s car then left the eastbound lane of travel before striking a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation sign and going over an embankment, where it struck trees and shrubbery, finally coming to rest.
Police reported Hopwood was air-lifted by StatMedevac to UPMC Altoona for evaluation and treatment for injuries of unknown severity.
No charges were filed and Hopwood was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
Emporium Fire Department and Cameron County Ambulance assisted.
