Prepare for three days of peace and music as the Dam Stock Music and Camping Festival celebrates the 50-year anniversary of Woodstock in Potter County later this week.
The tribute to Woodstock is held in the remains of the giant concrete Austin Dam, which combined with the surrounding mountains serves as a natural amphitheater.
Pre-sale tickets have more than doubled this year, while music lovers prepare to hear tributes to greats such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Jimi Hendrix and more.
“We cut day passes online because we don’t want to give anyone a bad experience. We are expecting a large crowd on Friday to purchase weekend passes at the gate, so we didn’t want to have people purchasing a Saturday ticket online and not having room for them,” noted Rich Hadfield, Dam Show coordinator.
Many adjustments have been made to the show since it started in 2012, including moving it downtown one year. After trailing attendance in 2015, the tribute show “Classic Rock at the Classic Rock” was created.
“That adjustment is just what the show needed,” explained Hadfield.
In addition to the Woodstock anniversary, Hadfield credits a few other reasons for the increased response this year.
“We have the most incredible guests, volunteers and musical talent. All of that combined with the natural amphitheater of the dam itself makes it a real special event. It really showcases what this area has to offer,” Hadfield said.
New this year is a VIP night, which allows guests Thursday entry into the show.
“This means an extra night of camping along with two extra bands for our VIP guests,” said Hadfield. Also new is RSVP camping, which allows guests to reserve a spot in a special camping area behind the dam.
“The area is groomed with fire pits, free firewood and special access to the concert area via a walkway through the dam ruins,” Hadfield stated.
Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport will be joining in on the festivities this year.
“Guests will be able to relax in the shade with a variety of Bullfrog’s offerings, including an amber lager made just for the Dam Show called ‘Dam Beer’,” said Hadfield.
In addition to live music and camping, hiking, fishing, various workshops and food and craft vendors will also be featured during the event.
