The McKean County Community Foundation awarded six seniors from Bradford Area High School with scholarships.
From Bradford Area High School, the recipient of the ARG Employee Scholarship was Mitchell Hayden, receiving $500; Nicole Sayers and Amber Hitchcock were the recipients of the Bradford Rotary Vocational Scholarship, receiving $500 each; the recipient of the Joe Stanko Memorial Scholarship was Lauren Abers, who will receive $500; the Bradford Creative Performing Arts Center Scholarship went to Ashley Keane, who will receive $500; Mikayla Bond received the Gloria V. Anderson Scholarship for $1,000 and the Ole Bull Violin Scholarship for $2,000.
Mitchell Hayden, a BAHS graduate, is the son of Donald and Sarah Hayden. He plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to major in criminal justice. After graduation, Hayden wants to go into law enforcement. During his high school years, Hayden was a youth member at Believers Chapel, a youth leader, Dominican Republic mission volunteer and a Camp JJ youth counselor. In college, he plans to play club hockey and join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Sayers is the daughter of BJ and Sue Sayers. She plans to attend Jamestown Community College, Olean campus, to major in nursing and pursue a career as a registered nurse. While attending BAHS, Sayers was part of the Go Green Club, Skills USA and teacher assisting, and she volunteered at Bradford Regional Medical Center. She was also a team member on the volleyball, basketball and softball teams.
Hitchcock is the daughter of John Hitchcock and Menda Lechiara. She plans to attend Jamestown Community College, Olean, N.Y., and major in accounting and management. While attending BAHS, Hitchcock was a member of Child Care and Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America and National Technical Honor Society. After college, she plans to work in the tax department at the courthouse or at a bank.
Lauren is the daughter of Stephen and Nancy Abers. Lauren plans on attending Slippery Rock University as a choreography and performance major with a minor in business administration. After graduating college, Lauren plans on starting her own studio to teach people how to dance. A graduate of BAHS, Lauren was a member of the Queen B’s, DECA, and stage craft. Lauren was also involved in dance for 14 years and choreographed BASD Musical of “The Sound of Music.”
Keane is the daughter of Shawn and Jacquelyn Keane. She will attend Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla., to double major in dance performance & choreography and marketing. During her time at BAHS, Kean’s activities were dance, student teaching and performance team captain at Studio B Dance Academy. She was part of National Honor Society and the Spanish Club, graduated magna cum laude and held distinguished honors throughout high school.
Bond is the daughter of Brian and Kimberly Bond. She plans to attend Houghton College to major in music and have a minor in psychology. After college, Bond wants to pursue a career in music therapy. At BAHS, she was part of the marching band, musicals, praise band, wind ensemble, concert band, women’s choir, chorale and the soccer and indoor/outdoor track teams.
