Frances Sherman VFW Auxiliary will host a Euchre Tournament for Homeless Veterans in memory of Mary Ellen Farnsworth on June 22 in the VFW club rooms at 94 Barbour St.
Signups at will be at noon with games starting at 1 p.m. A donation of $10 includes door prize entry and lunch buffet. Participants can pre-register at 368-3011.
The public is welcome. A cash bar will be available with proper ID.
All proceeds will go to VFW Post 212/Auxiliary Homeless Veterans Fund in conjunction with the YWCA.
Organizers saw a need to help homeless veterans after learning of a veteran who was under the overpass on Main Street. The VFW has made a place at the YWCA for such and emergency, and proceeds from the event will be used for the cause.
The event is held in memory of Farnsworth, a late auxiliary member.
“Our dear Mary Farnsworth was always adamant about taking care of our veterans so we do this in her name,” explained Val Meacham. “She loved Euchre and her veterans….perfectly fitting.”
