WARREN — The Crary Art Gallery welcomes summer with two new temporary exhibitions opening Saturday with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
In the north side of the museum, Ken Coon, a Cleveland area artist who will be in attendance for a meet-and-greet at that time, presents “The Lyrical Instant,” a collection of 22 paintings that span over two decades of work, in a variety of mediums and techniques using egg tempera, acrylic, watercolor and oils.
The common thread among his works is the brilliance and detail in which the artist captures a single moment in time, such as an object sitting on a shelf, the sun falling on a field, or a popcorn seller at a ball game. The artist himself can be spotted in several of his paintings inhabiting different personalities.
Running concurrently in the South galleries, the CAG welcomes Tiffanie Mang and her exhibition “Lightscapes.” This painter captures the essence of a landscape in small-format paintings using bold colors and brushstrokes that make them jump from the paper.
An illustrator and plein air artist born and raised in San Diego, Mang has been taking art classes since the age of six. A 2014 University of Southern California graduate in Animation and Digital Arts, she worked in Poland in 2016 as a painter/animator on “Loving Vincent,” a 2018 Oscar nominee for Best Animated Film. “Loving Vincent” is the world’s first fully hand-painted feature film in oil paints, and the subject is the life and mysterious death of Vincent van
Gogh.
The film will be available for free viewings every Friday at 6 p.m. Or, visitors to the Crary can request to watch the DVD anytime during open hours in the month of June.
In addition to these temporary exhibitions, the CAG introduces yoga with NETA-Certified instructor Martha Rogus on Wednesdays from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. The style is a meditative Vinyasa yoga for all levels, and beginners are welcome. Classes will take place in the outdoor courtyard by the fountain, or in the main gallery if it is rainy or cold.
Also, this summer the museum will offer a painting skills-building course with artist-in-residence Samila Sosic. Visit craryartgallery.org for details and to sign-up for these activities.
