Bradford native recognized for public TV documentary

Bradford native Kenneth Day was recently recognized for a documentary he produced for Maryland Public Television on the founders of Columbia, Md.

Day, senior executive producer at Maryland Public Television, produced the hour-long documentary titled “Columbia’s Promise,” which aired on MPT for the Baltimore/Washington area in late April as well in a private screening at Howard Community College in Columbia.

A feature story on Day and his documentary was also published in the Baltimore Sun newspaper in late April.

Day’s documentary describes the life of James W. Rouse, founder and developer of Columbia, which is the second largest city in the state. Columbia is considered a forerunner of successful developments of new towns that sprung up around the country in the 1960s. Day said a PBS station on the West Coast expressed interest in airing the documentary as “every major city in the country has an urban planner on staff, and virtually everyone of those people studied Columbia, Md., in college as a perfect example of urban planning.”

He said the documentary is available online at www.mpt.org with “Columbia’s Promise” featured on the main page for streaming.

Day, who has been employed by MPT since 1985, resides in Reistertown, Md., with his wife Jean.

They have three children and two grandchildren. He is the son of Lois Day of Bradford and the late Robert S. Day.
