The Bradford Landmark Society is teaming up with the Main Street Movie House to show classic films of Bradford during the 1930s
The movies will begin at 7 p.m. on April 24.
Sally Costik, curator of the Bradford Landmark Society, told The Era there will be three different films shown for free.
The first of three black-and-white films, is about a boy and girl who are childhood sweethearts.
The boy moves away but eventually comes back to Bradford and reunites with the girl in an unusual way.
The second film is a silent film and shows various scenes throughout Bradford.
The third film shows scenes including a festival on Main Street, a “beautiful baby contest” and marching bands.
“You get to see Bradford as people in the 1930s saw it,” Costik said. “All the buildings, all the cars and all the old businesses.”
She explained the films were designed with intent to promote Bradford and bring publicity to the city — which had a population of around 18,000 at the time.
Costik added there will be a 50/50 raffle at the complimentary event.
She said she hopes to see many people in attendance.
The films are being shown as a “thank you” from the Bradford Landmark Society for all of the community’s support over the last 50 years, as the society celebrates its golden 50th anniversary this year.
