Everyone knows someone in the community who seems to stand out. She could be the invaluable volunteer that keeps a project running, the woman with the creative idea that leads to a new venture, or the woman who sees a need and finds a way to fill it.
Every year the Zonta Club of Bradford seeks to find these women and on March 8, which is also International Women’s Day, surprises them by saying thank you for their contributions and presents them with a yellow rose. This year, Zonta also recognized a man who acknowledges and supports Zonta’s mission.
This year’s honorees are Mikele Bay, Greta Billings, Michelle Bizzarro, Susan Evans, Anne Holliday, Marcie Schellhammer, Marie Troskosky, Cheryl Wier, Teresa Wilcox, Hazel Wolcott and Dean Bauer.
On Friday, members of the Advocacy Committee of Zonta — Kathy Kresge, Karolyn Graves, Lynn Kuntz and Lisa Chapman — met early to write a thank you note, assemble yellow roses and map out a plan for surprising the honorees at work or home for Rose Day.
The Advocacy Committee of Zonta has no trouble finding nominees for this honor. The generous, courageous and determined nature of the local nominees exemplifies the goal of advancing the status of women, according to the club.
