KANE — Dave Swanson, post commander, wanted the Kane VFW Post 1132 to reflect the pride its members hold in the American military.
A facelift and some updated artwork on the walls fit the bill.
A fellow post member recommended Jolene Ebeling, a local graphic designer, for the project Swanson had in mind.
Upon obtaining quotes for the project, Swanson then presented the idea to the club’s financial committee. Shortly, after receiving approval, the project was underway.
Swanson stated, “my original thought was that I wanted something vivid and worthy of representing our post. Jolene was able to accomplish exactly what we were looking for. She went above and beyond our expectations.”
Ebeling remarked, “it was my pleasure to work alongside the club members, while creating these logos.”
After three months of designing and preparation, the new logos have been placed throughout the building. Each wall represents a different branch of service, such as the Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy, and the Coast Guard.
The VFW Post 1132 is a non-profit organization with approximately 700 members, half of those members being veterans.
Swanson said, “This is a growing club and all money raised through our organization goes back into Kane, benefiting our local veterans and community.”
Swanson’s role in the club, as post commander, is to review reports and finances. Prior to submitting the reports to the state, Swanson must ensure compliance with all bylaws, under both the state and national Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to this, Swanson leads meetings, oversees club committees, as well as provides direction for club and veteran activities.
Some of the upcoming activities held by the club are the Memorial Day Parade and Flag Day Ceremony. The club participates in the Flag Day Ceremony, with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. There are plans for Veteran’s activities to be held at both the VFW and Lutheran Home of Kane. Also, this post is responsible for maintaining the flags of veterans, at the cemeteries in the area.
Swanson stated, “Being that I am a veteran of the Navy, I am a huge supporter of our military. I am proud to be a member of VFW Post 1132.”
