DUBOIS — Otto-Eldred Class of 2015 graduate, Melody Young, became the first player at Penn State DuBois to reach the 1,000 point plateau Sunday afternoon in her final home game versus Penn State Scranton.
Young needed just two points at the beginning of the game and quickly put up the first bucket of the game to reach her goal. She was presented with a plaque and 1,000 point ball by head coach Pat Lewis. Coach Lewis celebrated a milestone of his own with his 400th career win as the Lady Lions went on to defeat Scranton 88-58.
Young had an exceptional week as the Lady Lions wind down their regular season before playoffs. A few games prior, she became the all-time leading rebounder in PSUD history passing former graduate Patience McCullough.
Young will add being PSUD’s first women’s 1000 point scorer to a list of her athletic accolades. In her four years at PSUD, she has been honored as Rookie of the Year, Team MVP, PSUAC All Conference, and USCAA All-American.
Young is the daughter of Melisa Sutton of Duke Center. She will graduate this May with her Bachelors in Administration of Justice with plans to be corrections officer.
