Coudy girls roll past Port A in key NTL matchup

PORT ALLEGANY —  Not only did Coudersport enact some early-season revenge on the Lady Gators, but they also scored a massive North Tier League victory with a commanding 57-37 win.

The Lady Falcons (8-3, 8-1) entered the night a game ahead of Port A in the standings, and wasted no time jumping on the Gators early.

Coudy jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one and had firm control of the game with a 29-10 advantage at the half.

“Coudersport came out hot,” Port A head coach Jamie Evens said. “We closed it to nine points at one point in the second half and Erin Stauffer had a strong second half with 10 to pull us back into the game.”

Shaelyn Black and Sarah Chambers scored 18 points each to power the the Falcon offense, which sank 20 of their 27 shots from the charity stripe.

Coudersport, which lost to Port Allegany by five points in December as part of a season-opening three game losing skid, has now won eight straight.

“We knew they had been playing well and that they hadn’t lost since we played them,” Evens added. “We had to focus on Chambers and Black specifically and obviously we didn’t do a good job.”

Cailey Barnett had a team-high 14 points for Port (9-3,6-3) and also added six steals.

Port Allegany travels to Cameron County for another critical league game on Wednesday, while Coudersport hosts Northern Potter.
