AUSTIN — The staff of Sinnemahoning State Park is holding a geocaching event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event, which includes a program, luncheon and prizes, will officially start at noon in the Wildlife Center classroom, with a covered dish luncheon. Park staff requests bringing a covered dish to share, along with stories of geocaching adventures from the season. Lunch will be followed by a special nature presentation and the event will wrap up at 2 p.m. with the conclusion of the game and awarding of geocaching prizes.
To keep the fun alive for all cachers attending, park staff have created a short and simple game for the day of the event. In addition, the park will release four new caches on the morning of the event with special swag inside for the First-To-Find. Check geocaching.com for the details of the game and the new caches.
All geocachers are encouraged to bring a person that has never cached before. The park has very family-friendly caches that would be well suited for introducing new geocachers to this great activity. Most of the 24 caches located in the park are located just a few feet off well groomed trails. The park also has loaner GPS receivers, pre-loaded with waypoints, that new geocachers can use for finding their first geocache.
Pre-registration is requested for this free event. For more information, visit the event website at https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC7Z91F_sinnemahoning-state-park-fall-gathering-2018 or call the Sinnemahoning State Park at (814) 647-8401.
