Port A, ECC cap off regular season with big wins

Port Allegany 36, Cameron County 0

PORT ALLEGANY — Port Allegany’s Josh Rees ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for a third score to lead the Gators to a season-ending 36-0 victory over Cameron County in their District 9 League game on Friday.

The winners rolled up 380 yards of offense led by Rees with 244 on 19 carries.

His two rushing TDs came on runs of four and 11 yards in the second quarter as the Gators built a 22-0 advantage. He also ran for a two-point conversion.

Rees caught his touchdown pass in the third quarter on a 6-yard aerial from Trey Ayers.

Port’s Collin Smith put the first points of the game on the board on a 17-yard run in the first period and he also scored on a two-point conversion in the second quarter.

The Gators’ final six points were scored by Taro Tanaka from four yards out in the final stanza.

Wayne Shelley also ran for a two-point conversion in the contest.

The Gators, who held the Red Raiders to 166 yards of offense, were led on defense by Smith with six solo tackles, Tanaka and Eli Petruzzi with four each, and Justin Young, Dalton Distrola and Rees with three each.

Port Allegany (2-3 in Small School North) finishes the season at 2-7 overall. Cameron County, meanwhile, finishes 1-4 in division play and 1-8 overall.

Elk County Catholic 36, Keystone 6

KNOX — Stephen Bobby, Elk County Catholic‘s all-purpose workhorse, rushed for 212 yards, scored three touchdowns and converted all four of his kicked extra point attempts to lead the Crusaders to a 36-6 victory over Keystone in District 9 League football action on Friday.

The win closed out the Crusaders regular season at 7-2 and gave them the Small School South Division title. While both the Crusaders and Clarion-Limestone finished 4-1 in division play, ECC defeated C-L 26-16 two weeks ago.

C-L crushed Curwensville 46-14 Friday night to also close the regular season at 7-2.

Both teams will host first-round games in the District 9 playoffs.

Bobby, who carried the ball 31 times, scored all three of his touchdowns in the third quarter on runs of five, three, and 35 yards. All three of his PAT kicks were good and the 21 points broke open a close game.

The contest was scoreless until the second quarter when ECC quarterback Mason McAllister found Hunter Cashmer open from five yards out for the touchdown. Bobby’s kick was true and the visitors took their slim 7-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

After falling behind 28-0, the hosts avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter on an Issak Jones 52-yard touchdown pass to Alex Rapp for six points.

The Crusaders answered with Cashmer’s 15-yard run for the TD and Ryan Fritz’s pass to Dillon Braun for the 2-point conversion and final 36-6 score.

Keystone finishes the season 1-4 in the division and 3-6 overall.
