She doesn’t do it for the honors, but they sure keep coming in.
Susan Evans, retired English teacher at Bradford Area High School, received a proclamation on Friday from state Sen. Joe Scarnati’s (R-Brockway) office. The proclamation, issued by the Pennsylvania Senate, recognized September as Ovarian Cancer Month throughout the commonwealth and Evans’ campaign to bring awareness of this deadly disease Friday at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
“I am honored,” Evans said to Adams when presented the documents.
Evans is an ovarian cancer survivor and the author of “Don’t Write The Obituary Yet,” a book in which she describes her surgical journey and remission.
Proclamations for 2018 were also signed by Rep. Martin Causer of the Pennsylvania House, Mayor William Peduto of Pittsburgh and Mayor Tom Riel of Bradford.
Soon, Evans will appear in a special health and wellness feature to be aired on WPXI-TV, the NBC-TV affiliate in Pittsburgh and anchored by award-winning broadcaster Lisa Sylvester. Evans’ book and her more than 140 civic presentations will be highlighted for their impact on informing women about the warning signs and treatment of ovarian cancer, which is the least funded and least known among cancers.
Ovarian cancer claims an estimated 14,000 victims every year out of the 22,000 diagnosed.
