The Bradford City Water Authority has a better idea of the scope of the plan to build a bridge over the Gilbert Reservoir spillway.
Steve Disney, the authority’s executive director, provided an update of the project at Wednesday’s authority meeting.
The state Department of Dam Safety had previously approved the project but asked for more information. A GAI Consultants survey crew was tasked with gathering more information. GAI will sent a permit package to Dam Safety for final review once it is finished compiling the survey data, according to Disney.
While GAI determined the project will not affect any streams or wetlands, 50-70 feet of an existing footpath will have to be regraded to connect the path to the pedestrian bridge and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Originally expected to be completed this year, the project will be put out for bid by the authority in early 2019.
Also at Gilbert, some minor road grading has been done on the access road, and road berm mowing was done on both the Gilbert and Marilla watershed roads.
Disney updated the authority on several other projects at the meeting, too.
The installation of a water main stream crossing at the site of a new Sleepy Hollow bridge over Marilla Brook is now complete. The authority crew worked with a crew from Bradford Township to install the 6-inch water main and a fire hydrant.
The last of 12 new gate valves has arrived and will be installed by Mortimer’s Excavating Oct. 2 and 3. The new valves are being install in spots where effective positive shutdowns have been difficult in the past.
At the Marilla Reservoir, Dean Construction removed a damaged section of gabion baskets and placed and grouted new stone with a concrete mix. Cleanup and grading is expected to be complete within the next week.
At the water treatment plant, Custom Ag Services of Marietta will begin cleaning the two settling lagoons the second week of October by removing and disposing of accumulated residual sludge that remains after the water filtering process.
