Administrators with the Bradford Area School District said School Street Elementary School and Floyd C. Fretz Middle School are now participating in the Summer Lunch program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Both campuses will offer nutritious, bagged lunches in the cafeterias from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Monday through Thursday until Aug. 2 in conjunction with the summer school program. The bagged lunches contain milk, fruit, vegetables and an entree, such as a sandwich.
“As they’re serving (the students) with the summer school program anyway, they figured they might as well make it a site for all children in the area to eat,” said School Street Principal Sarah Tingley regarding the lunch program.
The summer lunch program has been conducted by the school district since 2009 and ensures all youngsters through the age of 18 receive a meal at noon, for free, if they choose.
The program will continue to be offered at Bradford Area High School cafeteria, on Interstate Parkway, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 10.
