The trio of MacKenzie Lansberry, Aspen Bishop and Kate Lansberry combined for 12 hits as Clearfield beat Bradford 24-0 in three innings on Monday.
The Bison (5-7) pushed across 16 runs in the second frame, led by Lansberry with 4 RBI. Clearfield had at eight girls with at least 2 RBI in the game.
On the mound, Erica Hanes and Abby Fedder combined to allow just one hit over the three innings.
Bradford (0-10) coach Jennifer Snow is hoping that her girls take a different approach at the plate in today’s game at St. Marys.
“We had a tough inning and they ran the score up, but we were also very timid at bad (Monday),” Snow said. “I’m hoping today we can rebound to be confident and aggressive at bat (against St. Marys).”
Coudersport 5, Smethport 4
COUDERSPORT — The Lady Falcons jumped out to an early lead and withstood a late Smethport rally to hand the Hubbers their first loss of the season.
Madison Smith threw six strong innings on the mound for Coudy (6-2), allowing just six hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.
The Falcons struck first with two runs in the second inning and led the entire way, but Smethport scored three runs in the top of the seventh to give Coudy a scare.
“We almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory,” Coudersport coach Dan Counts said. “But, I’m proud of my girls because they fought and pulled it out. Smethport is a good ball club and they battled until the very end.”
Counts said that the combination of poor weather conditions and a young roster led to a sloppy game for his team, but was pleased that they were able to capitalize on some Smethport fielding mistakes.
“It was real windy and it affected both teams,” he said. “There were plenty of plays that should have been made by both teams and it wasn’t until that third inning when we went up and took advantage and that made the difference.”
Smethport (7-1) had been undefeated on the year until Monday’s game. Haleigh Larson went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI for the Hubbers, while Abbey Woodard went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
These same two teams play again tomorrow in Smethport.
Galeton 3, Cameron County 2, 10 innings
GALETON — Eva Olofson stole home in the bottom of the 10th inning to walk-off the Red Raiders (4-5) on Monday.
Cameron County pitcher Laila Smith hadn’t allowed a run since the third inning before Olofson’s steal. Smith struck out 19 batters in an impressive display on the mound.
For Galeton, Makaya Shadie allowed just nine hits and struck out 16 Cameron County. Shadie also added a solo home run at the plate in the second inning.
In addition to her performance on the mound, Smith led the Red Raiders with three base hits. Alyvia McKimm added two doubles for CC.
