ERIE — The offices of United States Sen. Pat Toomey, State Senator Scott Hutchinson, State Representative R. Lee James and the Venango County Veteran Affairs Office will host a ceremony to commemorate National Vietnam Veterans Day.
Veterans from the Northwest Pennsylvania area are invited to attend and be honored at this event.
This ceremony will be on March 26 at 10 a.m. at the Franklin VFW Post 1835, located at 415 9th Street in Franklin.
Toomey’s state director, Col. Robert DeSousa will join Hutchinson and James in offering remarks and presenting commemorative pins and certificates to Vietnam-era veterans during the event.
Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of station location, will be eligible to receive a lapel pin at this ceremony.
Family members are invited to attend the ceremony with veterans.
“Our Commonwealth’s Vietnam veterans bravely served this country and it’s an honor for my office to recognize them for their service,” said Toomey. “For over half a century, many of these veterans have been unsung heroes. I encourage all Vietnam War veterans in Northwest Pennsylvania to participate in this recognition event.”
Toomey co-sponsored legislation to permanently designate March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of veterans who served during the Vietnam War.
The bill has been signed into law by President Donald Trump.
