The Bradford City Water Authority will contract for $42,300 in repairs to the Marilla Reservoir outlet channel.
Authority members opened bids Tuesday, then voted to accept a bid at their meeting Wednesday on the recommendation of Randy Krause of Bankson Engineers.
Dean Construction LLC of Smethport submitted the lowest of the six bids, at $42,300. The work is to include repairs on several gabion baskets in the outlet channel that have become dislodged from heavy water flow.
Also at the meeting, Executive Director Steve Disney reported that all gates leading to water authority-owned watershed property would be temporarily closed.
“Cold-to-warm alternating weather periods, such as the one we are currently experiencing, create situations that are detrimental to the integrity of the roads when the frozen sub base begins to thaw,” Disney said.
The authority also approved an upgrade to the chlorination operations equipment at the wastewater treatment plant for a cost of $32,900. The upgrades are slated to include new electronic cylinder scales and controls, new chlorine sensors and new plumbing with a sodium hypochlorite back-up system and new Gemini Halogen Emergency shut-off system.
“This new safety feature will enable the chlorine cylinders to be automatically shut down in the event a chlorine leak is detected by the sensors,” according to the authority.
Disney said the authority’s emergency response plan and emergency action plan dam notices were updated and are circulating to local emergency management agencies and municipalities.
